NEW EMAILS SHOW TRUMP’S TEAM PLACED THEIR COUP HOPES IN JUSTICE THOMAS

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 2) — New reports today reveal that Justice Clarence Thomas was identified by Donald Trump’s lawyers as the former president’s “only chance” to stop the certification of the 2020 election, and “key” to Trump’s plan. The news follows ongoing revelations about the role Justice Thomas’ wife, Ginni Thomas, played in the leadup to the January 6th insurrection and her communications with high-level Trump officials encouraging Trump not to concede.

Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its executive director, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response to the news:

“Every time we learn more information about the January 6th insurrection, more information comes out about a Thomas. There’s a reason Trump’s team saw Justice Thomas as their possible savior for their phony, doomed claims of election fraud: he consistently works to prop up and legitimize claims of interference in the 2020 election, lack of evidence be damned — and repeatedly sides with right-wing extremists rather than the majority of the American people. Thomas doesn’t even try to hide his efforts to help hand elections to conservatives, as he openly works to dismantle the democratic system and make it harder to vote.

“We’ve got to start fighting back — and fast. Congress needs to immediately investigate Justice Thomas for his conflicts of interest, and pass the Judiciary Act to expand the Court and stop right-wing demagogues from using the Court to steal an election in the future.”
