VOTERS REJECT RIGHT-WING COURT’S ASSAULT ON OUR RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

“The right-wing Court majority’s overreach on abortion, climate, and other crucial issues cost their candidates dearly.”

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 9) — As results from the 2022 midterm elections continue to come in, Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its executive director, Sarah Lipton-Lubet:

“Last night, the American people sent a clear message that they are sick and tired of the right-wing assault on our rights, our freedom, and our democracy. From blue states to red, Americans turned out to reject the Supreme Court’s attack on abortion — the people will not submit to being ruled by an out of touch, out of control Court.

“Make no mistake: The Supreme Court’s Republican justices tried to stack the deck for their party through a series of decisions weakening our democracy. Indeed, if Republicans ultimately capture control of at least one chamber of Congress, it will be largely due to the Republican Supreme Court greenlighting voter suppression and gerrymandering. But it’s clear today that the right-wing Court majority’s overreach on abortion, climate, and other crucial issues cost their candidates dearly.

“While a number of pivotal races are still too close to call and we must make sure election officials count every vote, Democrats defied expectations and political history in this election — but the Supreme Court’s existential threat to our democracy continues to loom. The right-wing justices are already considering new ways to help Republicans steal the presidential election in 2024. We can’t let up this fight. If we want to restore abortion access and repair our democracy in a real, lasting way, we have to expand the Court.”
