BOMBSHELL POLL FINDS AMERICANS WANT TO EXPAND SUPREME COURT AS NEW TERM STARTS
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 4, 2023) – A new Morning Consult/Politico poll out today found that, in the first week of a new Supreme Court term, a plurality of Americans support expanding the Supreme Court. 44 percent of registered voters strongly or somewhat approve of adding justices to the court, while just 35 percent strongly or somewhat disapprove.
“Americans haven’t forgotten that the Supreme Court reversed the right to abortion — and they’re not going to forget next November. We’re still pissed,” said Take Back the Court Action Fund President Sarah Lipton-Lubet. “Couple that with the right-wing justices’ rampant corruption and general arrogance, and it’s hardly shocking that millions are ready to see the court rebalanced.”
Public polling has consistently found that the Supreme Court’s esteem is at an all time low with Americans since the right-wing supermajority reversed decades of precedent to overturn Roe v. Wade. In the months since, the court has been plagued by a series of ethics scandals while continuing to impose unpopular right-wing policy views.
The poll shows support for court expansion among several key demographics:
59% of Millennials support expansion, while only 20% oppose
50% of Gen-Z support expansion, while only 23% oppose
63% of Black voters support expansion, while only 13% oppose
65% of Democrats support expansion, while only 17% oppose
66% of liberals support expansion, while only 18% oppose
49% of moderates support expansion, while only 27% oppose
