CONSEQUENCES OF SUPREME COURT’S RULING IN MOORE COULD BE FATAL TO DEMOCRACY

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 7) — Arguments in Moore v. Harper, a case in which the right-wing justices could give Republican state legislatures unprecedented power over how federal elections are run in their states, just wrapped up at the Supreme Court. Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its executive director, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response:

“It’s Insurrectionist State Legislature Theory day at the Supreme Court. Every good-faith observer agrees the independent legislature scheme is a meritless assault on democracy. That the Court is even entertaining this nonsense is a sign of how eager it is to continue its shameful history of weakening democracy to advantage the Republican Party.”
