CROW DISAPPOINTED TO LEARN SUPREME COURT VOTE HE BOUGHT DOESN’T COME WITH ‘SEPARATION OF POWERS’ LEGAL DEFENSE

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 23, 2023) — Lawyers for Harlan Crow, the billionaire right-wing megadonor who has secretly lavished Clarence Thomas with expensive gifts and vacations for more than two decades, reportedly sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin asserting that Congress doesn’t have the authority to investigate the Supreme Court. Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response:

“Harlan Crow seems to believe that if you buy a vote on the Supreme Court, it comes with a free ‘separation of powers’ legal defense. Unfortunately for Crow, being a multi-billionaire doesn’t make you above the law — or at least, it shouldn’t. Crow wants to call Congress’ bluff on holding Clarence Thomas accountable for his ethical misconduct. Senator Durbin and his Judiciary Committee would be wise to make him eat his words.”
