LIPTON-LUBET: DON’T BE FOOLED BY TEMPORARY PAUSE IN SCOTUS’ ANTI-ABORTION CRUSADE

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 21, 2023) — Today the Supreme Court issued a full stay of extremist Trump judge Matthew Kascmaryk’s decision overturning Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of mifepristone, an abortion medication. In response, Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet:

“The good news is a safe and effective medication will still be available to those who need it — at least for now. The bad news is this was just the tip of the iceberg. The chaos and confusion unleashed by a single MAGA judge over the last two weeks is exactly what the right-wing Supreme Court justices invited when overturned Roe — and it’s only going to get worse from here.

“My message to elected officials, advocates, and journalists is this: don’t be fooled by a temporary pause in the Court’s anti-abortion crusade. Republicans packed the federal bench to ban abortion, period. It’s only a matter of time until the Court resumes its assault whether that’s deciding this case on the merits or the next anti-abortion scheme that gets rubber stamped by a rogue district court judge.”
