LIPTON-LUBET: “NO WONDER” JOHN ROBERTS WON’T TESTIFY

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 28, 2023) — A new Business Insider report this afternoon revealed that Chief Justice John Roberts’ wife Jane Roberts earned at least $10.3 million from 2007 to 2014 in her lucrative role as a top legal recruiter. Part of that income comes from firms that practice before the Court — as Insider points out, “At least one of those firms argued a case before Chief Justice Roberts after paying his wife hundreds of thousands of dollars.” Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response:

“No wonder John Roberts didn’t want to testify about Supreme Court ethics! Our supposedly ‘independent’ judiciary shouldn’t be on a scandal-a-day schedule. At the risk of repeating myself — honestly hard to avoid with the corruption news breaking at this pace — it’s past time for Congress to start issuing subpoenas.”
