RIGHT-WING JUSTICES PROVE ONCE AGAIN THEY’RE TRYING TO RUN AN EXTREME CONSERVATIVE POLICY SHOP

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 28, 2022) — Today, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments in Biden v. Nebraska and Dept. of Education v. Brown — cases threatening the future of President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, which would help 40 million borrowers living under the crushing weight of student debt. Take Back the Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response:

“If one thing is abundantly clear from today’s arguments, it’s that Justice Alito and his right-wing colleagues are more interested in acting as a right-wing policy shop than as an independent judicial authority. The same right-wing justices who cry wolf about ‘judicial activism’ have created a legitimacy crisis at the Court by going after any and every policy enacted by a Democratic president to help the American people. If we have any hope of a legitimate judiciary that puts the interests of the public over wealthy corporations, we must expand the Court.”
