SENATE JUDICIARY TAKES MUCH-NEEDED STEP ON SUPREME COURT CORRUPTION

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 2, 2023) – Today, Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin unveiled an intended motion for his committee to issue subpoenas to Harlan Crow, Leonard Leo, and Robin Arkley II in a major new step towards investigating corruption at the Supreme Court.

“The right-wing Supreme Court justices clearly have no intention of behaving ethically or holding themselves — or each other — accountable, so it’s up to Congress to step in,” said Sarah Lipton-Lubet, president of Take Back the Court Action Fund. “Senator Durbin is absolutely right to move toward subpoenas. If Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo have nothing to hide about their relationships with the right-wing justices, they should have no trouble complying when the Judiciary Committee calls them to testify.”

The news comes just days after activists delivered a petition signed by more than 400,000 people demanding that the Senate Democratic leaders take action to investigate corruption at the court. The signatures were collected by groups including Stand Up America, Indivisible, Daily Kos, MoveOn, League of Conservation Voters, Freedom From Religion Foundation, American Humanist Association, Demand Justice, People Power United, and Take Back the Court Action Fund.
