SUPREME COURT WILL HEAR CASE THREATENING WORKERS’ RIGHT TO STRIKE
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 5, 2022) — On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in Glacier Northwest Inc. v. International Brotherhood of Teamsters — a case that threatens workers’ right to strike by opening them up to lawsuits by employers facing economic losses as a result of their workers striking.
Take Back the Court released the following statement on behalf of its executive director, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in anticipation of the case:
“If the Court’s right-wing supermajority rules in favor of Glacier Northwest, it could rob workers of their right to strike — a tool at the heart of the labor rights movement. This case is another bad faith effort by the Court’s right-wing justices to strip working people of their rights in order to help out their rich and powerful friends. Adding four new justices to the bench is how we build a Court that actually works for, not against, the vast majority of the American people.”
