TAKE BACK THE COURT STATEMENT ON SCOTUS VACCINE MANDATE RULING

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 13, 2022) — Take Back the Court Executive Director Sarah Lipton-Lubet today released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling that blocks President Biden’s large-employer vaccine-or-test mandate.

“Today’s ruling once again demonstrates the current hyper-partisan Supreme Court does not care about the health and safety of Americans. Weeks ago, the conservative Court allowed Texas’ egregious abortion ban to stand, putting countless pregnant Texans in harm’s way. Today, they chose judicial activism, placing millions of Americans in peril by blocking life-saving regulations. The only throughline between these decisions is an unwavering commitment to right-wing political ideology.

“Countless advocates — even large corporations — agree that COVID-19 testing and vaccine mandates are critical to saving lives and putting the pandemic behind us. But instead, the right-wing Court has chosen politics over sanity, imperiling millions of Americans and sending a clear message that they intend to govern from the bench instead of letting democratically elected leaders do their jobs.

“America has suffered enough damage from this Court’s reckless nonsense. We must expand the Court.”

Take Back the Court raises awareness about the urgent need to expand the number of seats on the Supreme Court to address the theft of the court by Senator Mitch McConnell during the Obama Administration. Without adding seats, Congress will not be able to restore the right to vote, ensure reproductive freedom, protect workers, halt our climate emergency, or pass new legislation.
