STATEMENT FROM TAKE BACK THE COURT ON SENATE CONFIRMATION OF AMY CONEY BARRETT

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 26, 2020) —“Make no mistake: with today’s rushed and illegitimate confirmation, Republicans have cemented their game plan to dismantle our democracy. Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans threw out their own rules to install a third Trump appointee to the Supreme Court because they know they do not represent a majority of this country and they cannot win elections on a level playing field. The GOP takeover of the courts is their last gasp at white minority rule and subversion of our multiracial democracy.

“There is no more ‘if’ about it. The Republicans have stolen the Supreme Court again. Abortion access, marriage equality, healthcare, climate change legislation, voting rights -- every long fought for right and future protection is now at risk. This ultraconservative Supreme Court will handcuff any progress for generations to come if not rebalanced and reformed.

Take Back the Court raises awareness about the urgent need to expand the number of seats on the Supreme Court to address the theft of the court by Senator Mitch McConnell during the Obama Administration.
