VANCE MAKES STINK ABOUT "CENSORSHIP" DAYS AFTER TRUMP THREATENS TO JAIL AMERICANS WHO EXERCISE FREE SPEECH

NATIONWIDE (October 2, 2024) – At the end of last night’s vice presidential debate, JD Vance said “I believe that we actually do have a threat to democracy in this country, but unfortunately, it's not the threat to democracy that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz want to talk about. It is the threat of censorship.” Vance later added that “criticizing the policies of the government […] is the right of every American.”

But just last week, Donald Trump said at a rally in Pennsylvania that critics of the Supreme Court “should be put in jail the way they talk about our judges and our justices.” That followed a previous campaign event at which Trump said of Supreme Court critics “I believe it’s illegal what they do. […] I really think it’s illegal what they do with the judges and justices […] playing the ref with our judges and our justices should be punishable by very serious fines and beyond that.”

In response to Vance’s comments in last night’s debate, Take Back The Court Action Fund released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet:

“JD Vance and Donald Trump should probably get on the same page before their next public appearance. Because if Vance actually believes what he said about censorship last night, he should immediately rebuke his running mate, who has repeatedly threatened to fine and imprison Americans for criticizing the Supreme Court. The truth is, the Trump-Vance campaign is the only campaign threatening to jail Americans for exercising their constitutionally protected right to criticize the government.

“With a new Supreme Court term starting next week, we at Take Back the Court will continue to embrace our First Amendment right to call out this corrupt, broken institution.”
